PLEASE DON'T COME ALONE - BRING A FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND WITH YOU

We now require that you bring a friend or family member with you to all hearing test/hearing aid consultation appointments. Let's discuss the reasons why we feel so strongly about this:

Point number one: Our patients consistently tell us they are very glad they brought someone to these appointments. We cover a tremendous amount of information at these appointments, and it is beneficial to have another pair of ears (ideally ones that don't have hearing loss!) to hear and help you remember what we had to say. Starting the path to improved hearing is not to be taken lightly; hearing loss is an important health issue and should be viewed as such.

Point number two: This is a great opportunity for Dr. Anderson or Ward to talk with you and your companion about the impact of your hearing loss, why it causes communication problems, and proper communication strategies for maximizing hearing abilities. We are now using more multimedia approaches to help illustrate and educate. We have found that family members benefit greatly from this discussion – they often are more understanding of the hearing loss after this appointment. That alone is worth bringing them!

Point number three: Should you have a hearing loss, bringing someone with a familiar voice is vital during the assessment phase of amplification. In fact, it is best if you can bring the person that complains about your hearing problem the most! We will use that person's voice as the "test" voice during product demonstration. That person will talk to you, both in quiet and in simulated noise, to see how well you can hear them while wearing hearing technology.

Point number four: If you are considering purchasing hearing aids, whether they are your first pair or your fifth pair, it is a large investment in your future. It is important that we address all your hearing issues during the consultation, and often times you may not realize all the problem areas. Often, it is a significant other who reminds you where the true problems lie. Plus, it is nice to have two heads thinking about questions that need to be asked!

So, please understand we only have YOUR best interest in mind when we tell you this is part of our new assessment protocol.
